AS DEVORACIÓNS is a collective creation process that explores food as a space for memory, identity and community. It stems from a generational realisation: “We don’t know how to plant a potato.” The loss of knowledge connected to the land, cooking and oral traditions, accelerated by globalisation and consumerism, also affects our relationship with the territory and the Galician language.

In response to individualism, the performance seeks to reclaim the kitchen as a place of encounter, affection and intergenerational exchange. In a future where eating has been reduced to a physiological necessity, three uprooted characters embark on a journey into memory, starting from a Galician factory.

On stage, an industrial still life is transformed into a living kitchen, bringing together text, contemporary and traditional Galician dance, sound, objects and live cooking. The creative process combines documentation, writing, improvisation and work in rural communities. In Catoira, an experience involving teenagers and older people provided an opportunity to share knowledge and food traditions across generations, incorporating their testimonies into the dramaturgy.

Suport:

AS DEVORACIÓNS is a performing arts project initiated by María Espasandín, Miguel Cavadas and Loaira Lázare, three artists who share a background in university theatre in Santiago de Compostela.

After being part of the company Faísca Teatro and creating two full-length productions together (Historia natural das estrañas criaturas mariñas and O que che contei mentres facías que durmías), both awarded prizes at Xuventude Crea, their paths diverged for six years.

During this period, each member of the team developed their own artistic career in writing, dance and music, participating in other projects, expanding their training, experience and professional networks both within and beyond Galicia, and receiving several awards and recognitions for their work.

Their reunion stems from a desire to bring together everything they have learned and return to the stage with a more mature perspective, shaped by mutual understanding, respect for each other's ideas and trust in collective creation.

Today, the diversity of their artistic journeys is the team's greatest strength: three complementary voices capable of developing a shared creative mind and forging their own distinctive performance language.
