A Conversation with Magdalena Garzón

How does an artistic creation come to life? What paths, influences and methodologies shape the development of a work?

Choreographer and educator Magdalena Garzón invites us to a conversation about artistic creative processes, exploring the different ways artists approach their practice and give shape to their ideas.

Each creative process is unique and closely connected to the identity, experiences and interests of the artist behind it. Artistic influences, working methodologies, tools and different approaches to art shape individual creative worlds that evolve throughout the process.

This gathering offers a space to reflect on these questions, share experiences and open up a dialogue around contemporary artistic creation. An opportunity to explore the diversity of practices and ways of understanding the creative process, beyond the final outcome.

A graduate in Choreography and Performance from the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, her artistic career is rooted in contemporary dance, improvisation, composition and performance research. Her creative practice moves between dance, music, visual arts and performance, with a particular interest in interdisciplinary approaches and the different relationships between the body, space and artistic languages. Her works include Vetlla (2022), an immersive, durational performance presented at Palma en Dansa and Dansàneu; Altars profans (2023), presented at Mercat de les Flors and Teatre Principal d'Inca; Retaule en dues parts (2018), inspired by Bach's music; and Verònica, a duet created with Zaida Fernández and presented at various festivals. She has also developed research projects exploring dance and visual diversity, such as Mirall dins un mirall, and has participated in research residencies focused on audio description and accessibility in choreographic creation. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with artists including Andrés Corchero, Lipi Hernández, Cecilia Molano and Constanza Brncic, combining her own artistic creations with performance, research and education.
